Morris & Co. Area Rug from Ruggable: First Impressions
Share
I'm a carpet hater.
Growing up with allergies, cats, and a basement that flooded, just no thanks!
Not to mention how much I love the warmth and timeless charm of wood floors anyways. When you have hard floors, you also get to use one of my favorite design pieces: the humble rug.
Well, humble in my experience buying washable rugs, like my latest castlecore find from Ruggable.
The four-, five-, and six-digit Persian pieces of walkable art are stunning but not so humble; their high maintenance and associated costs have kept me away.
Even if you buy vintage (which I love to do), you have to plan for professional cleaning, assuming there are no condition issues to deal with first. Then when your cat rushes over to it for a 2 A.M. hairball... I'm just not willing to take it on!
Some of the most beautiful area rugs I've seen have been family heirlooms. As in, other families.
I have no rug inheritance.
But, I've bought 2 area rugs, 2 runners, and an accent rug from Ruggable and consider them all to be savvy purchases. Of course, there is nuance, which I'll walk you through here!
1: The 8' x 10' area rug was perfect for our smaller living room in the old house. Make sure you're choosing the largest size your space can stand.
Nuance: I chose a faded, vintage-inspired design that looks good, but not breathtaking like my latest choice. Take your time choosing one you like, and read the reviews.
2: My new 9' x 12' Morris & Co. area rug is the modern medieval/castlecore design of my dreams! Just like in artwork from long ago, you'll continue finding little details, like hidden animals with humanesque faces, the longer you study it.
Nuance: This is the largest size available from this brand right now, and their special rug pad system is actually two pieces. (As far as I know, this is the case for only this size.) This made it a two-person job to ensure they were aligned while cradling the heavy, giant rug and trying to lay it smoothly. Honestly, there are still some wrinkles after several attempts to match them up perfectly, but I'm so in love with it, knowing I can simply roll it back up, wash, and do it again whenever I want!
3: My space could really stand a 10' x 15' option. I wonder if that's in the pipeline! I know there are other companies making washable rugs, but I've only experienced Ruggable so far.
This modern medieval dress is Elie Saab Couture from the Fall 2017 collection. I'll imagine I'm wearing this when I bake the Green Man Pie by The Wondersmith, which I think perfectly suits our castlecore vibe.
